Why live in a BSC co-op?

• savings: Sharing resources, buying in bulk, and dividing labor among members keeps the cost of living low. You simply can't get more for less in any living environment! Learn more about what a co-op is. 
  

• the people: The BSC works on the cooperative principle of open membership. This means that our co-ops attract people from a wide variety of backgrounds, leading to a diverse and accepting community atmosphere.

• it's your kitchen: The co-op houses have open kitchens which provide all your meals during the academic year (and a few do in summer).  If you are a hungry member, you can go and eat any time, day or night. After all, it's your food. Since the manager that orders food is elected by and lives in your house, it's easy to help select what food your house buys.  If you are living in a co-op apartment, you are responsible for your own food, but you can choose to get a food contract at a co-op.

• near campus: All of our co-ops are within walking distance from the UC Berkeley campus, and accessible via public transportation to any San Francisco or other local bay area college, university and community college. • democratic community: Living in the co-op gives members the opportunity to make an impact at home. As a resident member, your vote counts. Members determine co-op policies and how funds are spent.
