Recipient of the Alumni Association Grant awarded to a co-oper on the basis of need and involvement in the co-ops. FROM: Portland, OR Outside of her commitment to her co-op community, Adina is active with the Mills cross-country team, the Jewish Student Association, and the queer community. Her contribution to an NPR piece on urban renewal in Oakland won her an Excellence in Journalism Award from the Northern California Society of Professional Journalists. Adina graduated from Mills College this past spring, and vows to seek out cooperative living wherever she ends up. Adina appreciates the Co-op for having given her “an incredible understanding and appreciation for the community that arises from cooperative living.” Adina’s post-graduation plans include following her passion for journalism, and she is considering working as an editor or a teacher for Americorps. Why Adina loves her co-op: “An entire community is contained within the walls of my home—a community that I find in the study room when I need a study buddy, or in the kitchen at all hours. We are a community that dances together, laughs together, supports each other, and takes care of our home together.” |
