Sam Shepard

Recipient of the Alumni Association Grant awarded to a co-oper on the basis of need and involvement in the co-ops.

Not unlike fellow coop-ers, Sam is motivated by a strong sense of social responsibility, along with inspiration in working alongside his peers. Sam plans to pursue a joint MD and Masters of Public Health, with the hope of doing work that addresses health inequities. His favorite part of living in the coops is the kitchen, where so many people, flavors, and industrial-size cookware mingle. Sam's weekly cooking ritual, madly improvising a meal for sixty, gives him great satisfaction.
 
Sorren Lindstrom

Sorren Lindstrom

MAJOR:  Integrative Biology

Sorren's passion lies in health and outreach. She has been involved in several organizations serving the community directly through advising, counseling, fundraising, empowerment, and health education. She is greatly interested in pediatric oncology, and wants to work towards a more holistic and community oriented form of treatment.
Sorren loves living in the co-ops because it creates an immediate sense of community, even considering the wide range of majors and interests. She has a particular fondness for Hoyt becuase of its fun atmosphere, cleanliness, and because no matter what time of day, she can go downstairs and there will be some kind of baked good on the table or in the making.
 
Gabriela Rios-Sotelo

MAJOR: Molecular and Cell Biology

Gabriela attributes her passions and leadership to the demands of her education at Cal. She quickly became involved in the student co-ops, athletics and academics. Juggling these responsibilities taught her to pursue her strongest passions with persistence and diligence. Gabriela dreams of going to graduate school studying infectious diseases. She wants to be a research scientist in this field, and hopes to live out of the country someday to do research.
Gabriela loves the co-ops because they provide a unique place for a dynamic, diverse and trans-formative college experience. She is thankful to have met the most amazing and wonderful people through co-ops and to have tried things she never believed she could, such as become involved in leadership positions and politics.
 
Genny Moo

Genny appreciates the co-ops for the many friends she has made, and the ability to have a community filled with friends and classmates.  She loves Rochdale because of the sense of
freedom and independence you gain from having your own apartment which you get to decorate and make it feel like your home. Genny attributes her passion and leadership to all the people in her life who have shown her what hard work and persistence means through their own struggles. Her mother tops this list as the ideal role model. Genny hopes to continue on to graduate school and become a researcher in the field of biotechnology.
 
Mikie Cortright

MAJOR: 1st BA in English from UCB. Currently 2nd BA in History at SFSU

 

By day Mikie is an ordinary student who is content just geting by and succeed in getting a good education. However by night he is a superhero powered by  cooperative values and a desire to do good in my community whether it’s a micro one or a macro. Mikie loves the excitement of meeting new people within the co-ops each semester and accumulating friends.  He is grateful for the opportunity the co-op has given him to meet so many brilliant and interesting people, and proclaims that co-op living is an experience he would recommend to anyone.
