Not unlike fellow coop-ers, Sam is motivated by a strong sense of social responsibility, along with inspiration in working alongside his peers. Sam plans to pursue a joint MD and Masters of Public Health, with the hope of doing work that addresses health inequities. His favorite part of living in the coops is the kitchen, where so many people, flavors, and industrial-size cookware mingle. Sam's weekly cooking ritual, madly improvising a meal for sixty, gives him great satisfaction. |

Gabriela attributes her passions and leadership to the demands of her education at Cal. She quickly became involved in the student co-ops, athletics and academics. Juggling these responsibilities taught her to pursue her strongest passions with persistence and diligence. Gabriela dreams of going to graduate school studying infectious diseases. She wants to be a research scientist in this field, and hopes to live out of the country someday to do research.
Gabriela loves the co-ops because they provide a unique place for a dynamic, diverse and trans-formative college experience. She is thankful to have met the most amazing and wonderful people through co-ops and to have tried things she never believed she could, such as become involved in leadership positions and politics. |

She loves Rochdale because of the sense of freedom and independence you gain from having your own apartment which you get to decorate and make it feel like your home. Genny attributes her passion and leadership to all the people in her life who have shown her what hard work and persistence means through their own struggles. Her mother tops this list as the ideal role model. Genny hopes to continue on to graduate school and become a researcher in the field of biotechnology.
