Scholarship Naming Opportunities

Scholarships have been critical in making housing truly affordable for those students who are most in need. June Tichinin was honored with a USCA Alumni Scholarship named after her. Those who have made these scholarship funds possible are invaluable in truly living up to the Cooperative's mission of providing the means to students who otherwise might not be able to attend college.

While we have a general scholarship endowment fund that anyone can give to, there is also the opportunity to create a separate semesterly scholarship, either in one's own name or in honor of another. Creating a scholarship in memory of a departed loved one is a gift in recognizing that individuals life as well as to the students served by it.

The general endowed scholarship fund is awarded to co-op students based primarily on financial need and secondarily on co-op involvement. New scholarship funds can have other specific award priorities and eligibility requirements based on the donor's preferences. These priorities and requirements include; academic achievement (GPA based) as a priority, eligibility for students residing in a specific house(example: must reside in Cloyne Court), eligibility for students of a minority (ex: women of color).

Endowed Scholarships

Co-opers like Brenda Perez benefit from endowed funds each year. With a gift of $50,000 or more, there is the opportunity to make the scholarship fund endowed. For an endowed scholarship fund, the principle amount remains undissipated as the interest is enough to provide a full scholarship each semester. This ensures that the scholarships will be made available to students for years to come.
