About
Lothlorien is like this: You’re still up, it’s one in the morning, you go to the kitchen for a snack, someone dragoons you into a conversation about food politics and speculative neurochemistry. You don’t get back to bed until four.
Lothlorien is about going through the house yelling that you’re off to the Exploratorium. Twelve people go with you, and you all spend hours being euphoric little kids, and hours more hiking around the Presidio, and hours more trying to find the Bay Bridge to get home again, and you go to bed full of the memory of the way the wind caught his or her hair, remembering why you like being alive.
Lothlorien used to have this guy who liked sleeping in the redwood tree, so eventually he started climbing the tree with a new board strapped to his back every night. So now we have a treehouse.
Lothlorien is always full of kids who roast their own coffee, ferment their own kombucha, grow their own epazote and chart their own course. Lothlorien is periodically full of naked hippies with super-soakers, charging around like lunatics and menacing passers-by, because it must always be one of ours who wins Co-Op-Wide Assassins.
Lothlorien is love, and sunlight percolating through the chestnut tree, and never having to drink your tea alone. Lothlorien is a day spent flying kites. Lothlorien is like this: three years ago, I climbed the hill for the first time, introduced myself, got a plate, stood in line for dinner, and realized I was already home. |
