Summer Co-op Housing
Thank you for your interest in Summer 2010 housing. This page includes updated summer information which may affect your housing preferences, details about verification needed, and other things you may want to know.
Acceptable verification includes ONE of the following:
a copy of your Spring 2010 registration with a current date OR
a copy of your Fall 2010 acceptance letter OR
a copy of your UCB Summer 2010 school confirmed class schedule
If you attend(ed) UC Berkeley during Spring 2010, we may be able to verify you on their website. Contact our office to check if we can verify your eligibility in this way.
If you lived in our co-ops previously, you do not need any verification documentation.
We will not assign you until we have received the proper verification of membership eligibility.
We will mail out our first summer contract offers during the first week of april. We will email people to let them know if they have been sent a contract in the first assignment. At the end of April we will make the second set of summer offers.
Sherman Hall will be co-ed during the Summer. Hoyt Hall will be open for women only.
Most Co-ops have different maintenance/construction projects going on during the summer. See the list of the Summer Construction Projects for more details as this information may affect where you want to live.
The co-ops which will be open for room and board will be Lothlorien, Hillegass/Parker and Wilde. All other co-ops will be room only.
During the summer only, you do not need to be a UC Berkeley student to live at Rochdale, Fenwick, or Convent, as long as you are otherwise eligible. You do need to be a UC Berkeley student to live in Cloyne Court.
For the summer contract period, it is usually easier to get an assignment to an apartment than an assignment to a house.
All rooms are furnished with a bed. desk, chair, dresser for each resident. You will have kitchen privileges in a communal kitchen in your house or an individual kitchen in your apartment.
The full summer contract period is May 24– August 14. (move-in starts May 23). We also offer two half-summer contracts. The contract period for the first half is May 24-July 2 and the second half is July 3-August 14.
Once you have signed a contract, you may cancel (in writing) by May 5 without penalty. If you cancel after this date, your charges will depend on our ability to replace you.
Summer residents who live in the co-ops for at least 6 weeks will have priority on the fall waiting list. However, summer residents are not guaranteed a spot in the co-op for fall. You should also be aware that if you do receive a fall assignment, it will not necessarily be for the same house or apartment you are assigned to for summer. Fall is assigned from a separate waiting list, so make sure you are on it if you are interested.
The workshift requirement will be about 2 hours/week for room-only houses, 5 hrs/week for room & board and 6-12 for the entire summer in apartments.
You are guaranteed a single only in the Convent, Hillegass/Parker, Rochdale Village and Fenwick Village (except Fenwick one-bedroom apartments which may be shared by two people). You are not guaranteed a single in the houses for Summer, but it is extremely likely that you will get one.
If you wish to be placed in a co-op house or apartment with a particular person (or people), you may "require" that you be placed with them. Requiring someone means that we will not place you in a co-op unless we can place both (or all) of you together. To put this restriction on your application, both (or all) of you must indicate this requirement when you submit your information. Be aware that we can only honor reciprocal pairs (or groups).
If you don't want to restrict your probability of receiving an offer, you can "request" to be placed in the same co-op with others. This option is for those who desire to be placed with another person(s), but would still want to be placed apart if they be placed together. You would both (or all) indicate this request when you submit your information.
