Fall 2009 Assignment Update

This page contains information about the assignment process to help you make your best decision about housing. If you have questions, please call our office at (510) 848-1936. The Office is open weekdays 10:00-5:00. We are happy to communicate by email, but it is far easier to give better answers by phone or in person.

WHAT YOU MAY WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE PROCESS:

1.  We are currently full for fall with very few outstanding offers. We assign openings as soon as someone cancels or transfers.

2.  We get the most late openings in the first 2 weeks of the semester.

3.  We get cancellations all semester long. We will offer out openings as they occur until November 10. Anyone still on the waiting list then will be given the option to transfer their application to a future semester (and be inserted based on their current priority).

4. We are making fall housing offers by email. We normally email in the afternoon, giving people until NOON, THE FOLLOWING BUSINESS DAY to respond. If you would also like a phone call, let us know. If you will be out of email contact for a period and are worried you will miss an offer, let us know.

5.  For assignment to Cloyne Court (and only Cloyne Court) we give priority to UC Berkeley Upper Division Students.  Note that you must provide verification to receive this priority.

6.  Hillegass Parker is going to be a very unlikely place to be assigned for Men.

7.  The waiting list is uncommonly long. Since most people need housing before the semester begins, the closer we get to fall, the more the waiting list will shrink as a result of people accepting other housing and other reasons. Thus, we will ask people to reconfirm their Fall co-op housing interest again sometime at the end of August/Beginning of September. The reconfirmation process is meant to be able to give better information to those people still waiting.

8.  If you do not receive an offer for Fall 2009 (by the time you need one), you may transfer your application to a future semester with no additional fee.

IF/WHEN YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED IN FALL 2009/SPRING 2010 HOUSING IN OUR CO-OPS, we would greatly appreciate if you would respond to this email and let us know.  Your options then are:

1.  Transfer your application to a future semester (just let us know which semester and what your housing preferences are and if your address has changed).

2.  If you think you may be interested in co-op housing in the future, but do not know when, you can leave your deposit on file and let us know later which semester.  It is a great idea to leave your deposit on file if you think you may be interested in the future as we order all waiting lists by application number which is assigned when you apply.

3.  You can request a refund of your deposit (minus $10 processing fee).  If you want to request refund, please give us an address where you want a check mailed.
